In a world where life moves at an unprecedented rate offering little time for reflection there is an increasing desire to find time, take a deep breath and reconnect with inner most thoughts and feelings.
'Blue Metal' portrays this very phenomenon with relentless, raw, machine like rhythms that give way to a hauntingly beautiful melody over slow and strong heart felt chords. The images for 'Blue Metal' depict the unyielding path of progress dissolving into a nostalgic, dreamy ride along a tree-lined dirt road.
This arrangement includes many interesting acoustic effects such as Sul Ponticello, Sul Tasto, Bartok 'Snap' Pizz, Instrument Body Percussion, Harmonic Gliss and the use of Plectrums. It also features the time-signature of 12/8 with a change to a 4/4 meter later in the piece whilst maintaining a constant pulse. As with all of Kristin's pieces there is an opportunity for students to have a go at improvising on their instruments.
Workshop Notes, Performance Notes and a guide to Improvisation for beginners (with optional written solo's) are provided to assist Teachers and Students navigate their way through this brave new world of string playing.

Reflextions of time gone by, European sonority, French twists.
The images for ‘Sepia’ takes us on a journey through the streets of Paris via the life, memories and reflections of an unknown gypsy woman. One can only imagine the amazing life that this woman has led, her inner most thoughts remain a mystery and only her gestures can give us a glimpse into her very being.
The music of ‘Sepia’ moves through three sections, the first section contains a bell like motive with dreamy sounds drifting over the top, the second and longest section moves like a lilting carnivale waltz and the final section consists of a canon in 4/4 with a reflective sonority. This arrangement is aimed at a grade 2 to 3 level and includes many interesting and accessable acoustic effects such as Sul Ponticello, Col Legno, Bow Nut between Strings, L.H Pizz, Slap, Harmonic Gliss over Alternating Strings and the use of Plectrums. As with all of Kristin’s pieces there is an opportunity for students to have a go at improvising on their instruments.
