The Awakening (New Work)

This will be a large work, fully notated, exploring the path of authenticity via the extrodinary sound world of the cello and live looping.

Thoughts on the Pre Compositional Process

Musical composition for me is always deeply connected to my own 'life' experience. Whilst I have learnt my craft (Bmus Music majoring in Composition), and can, on demand (with or without inspiration), compose works for a variety of instruments and and instrumentations, I prefer to take my time, read and think carefully about what it is I wish to express.

Over the past few years, whilst pursuing a simpler (ironically harder) life, I have learnt much about myself, the world and the workings. I have read widely (beyond music texts), met new people and experienced a great many things.

My new 'major' musical work, the work I am describing here, is about bringing together all that I now have to offer, all of my current thinking and strong passions. It is about an 'awakening', the awakening of awareness and the beauty and torment of such awareness. For to awaken requires work, hard continuous work, and cannot be achieved by any other means.
