On the 25th of this month I was inspired to write a new song with the title of 'The Knife that Cuts a Tear'. This title and song seemed to sum up so beautifully everything that I wish to say about this life.

The month of May has seen the development of a several pieces, in particular a major work currently entitled
"The Enemies of Learning"
"The Enemies of Learning" is a piece that I've been meaning to compose ever since reading Gary David's article "The Enemies of Learning and the Epistemological Profile" a few years ago. In this article Gary explains that "the term 'enemy' etymologically means 'not friend'. It was the term used by many different native American traditions who spoke of the four enemies a person faced in growing from experience to knowledge to wisdom."

Over the past few years I've been on an intense journey of understanding. I've had many battles to fight internally and externally to gain this understanding and as I continue along the metaphorical 'road less travelled' I increasingly feel more at peace with the life and ready to face the ever increasing challenges that life offers. It is this personal and unfinished journey that has inspired the music to "The Enemies of Learning".
The composition "The Enemies of Learning" comprises of five distinct movements that represent the Journey of a Soul.
I. FEAR - Fear and an enemy is a script.
Every step of learning is a new task, and the fear 'the soul' is experiencing begins to mount mercilessly, unyielding.
THE SOULS PURPOSE HAS BECOME A BATTLE FIELD
II. CLARITY - Clarity of mind erases fear, but also blinds.
Clarity carries no guarantee of any kind, of survival, of success, or of benefits. Clarity is an aesthetic, not a utilitarian value. The Soul must think this clarity is almost a mistake, only a point before souls eyes.
III. POWER - Power is the strongest of all enemies, he is the master.
The Soul has to realise the power that has seemingly been conquered was never able to be owned.
IV. INSIGHT - Seeing the semantic waste of our nihilistic times.
No more fears, no more impatient clarity of mind, all power in check - the soul has an unyielding desire to rest.
V. SELF - No enemies, no friends, SELF.
In next months update/preview I'll include some audio 'snippets' from "The enemies of Learning" as well as further updates on the other works in progress from "A Sane Society(?)"
The DVD "A Sane Society(?)" will include the very popular 'Blue Metal' track from the "Dare to be Different" Tour 2008.
